W What do Madonna, Gianni Versace, Perconti Data Systems (an IT company located in St. Petersburg, FL), and former mayor of Vienna, Helmut Zilk all have in common? They, as many other savvy art collectors, own some of Helmut Preiss’ original artwork.
Helmut Preiss was born in 1941, in Vienna, Austria. He attended the Academy of Art, Vienna at the age of 16. As you look at his work, you will see the influence of his fine classic training, as well as the metamorphosis to his own revolutionary and personal style.
He was influenced by the “old masters,” such as Franz Hals, Roger Van Der Weyden, Vermeer, Bosch and Duerer; as well as by the techniques of the Impressionists. His admiration with Dalí and Picasso also play a role in his later style.
Here is his tribute to Vermeer and his version of “Girl with a Red Hat.”
… and here is Vermeer’s masterpiece.
In 1966 to 1975, he spent his time illustrating over sixty children’s books for several publishing houses.
In 1973, Helmut Preiss held his first major solo exhibitions at The Museum of Art in Munich, Germany. During this period, he sold over 400 oil paintings, and many mixed-media works and drawings worldwide to private collectors and institutions.
In the late eighties, he settled in the United States, in Los Angeles. In 1992, he came to Tampa, Florida, where he lived with his wife.
In 1991, Preiss began a new transition in his art, from lyrical naturalism to abstract cubism and beyond.
His unique style has found many fans and are being sold to art enthusiasts and collectors in the United States and all over the world. It’s ideal for homes with traditional and antique furnishings, as well as contemporary spaces.
