He’s a recipient of major artistic fellowships and grants. José is the only Tampa (Ybor City) born Latin artist to receive a Visual Artist Fellowship in Painting from the National Endowment for the Arts. Along with his “rare” NEA Visual Arts Fellowship. The artist has also garnered both a Fulbright Fellowship in Painting and an Oscar Cintas Fellowship in Painting.\nNatalie Velez is a Russian born\, Florida based artist. She is influenced by post-impressionism: she uses colors and shapes to describe the way she sees the world around her. Natalie’s works are in private national and international collections. \nFEB 13th Ro Martinez \nRo is inspired by nature\, especially the rays of light shining through the linear tall trees found in the parks she frequents.\nThe artist works with acrylics in her favorite black and white palette occasionally mixing a rainbow of colors to create a blend of her two styles; Op-Art and Abstract design. DESCRIPTION:January 24th – March 9th\, 2020\nGallery Open Every Sunday 8:30-11:30 AM \nJosé was born in San Juan\, Puerto Rico in 1967. Torres Pereyra completed his Bachelor’s degree (Magna cum laude) in Graphic Arts from Escuela de Artes Plásticas del Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña. As an important component of his artistic development\, José Oscar felt the need to break with the woodcut limitations to be able to express his vision of reality in a more authentic way. With that in mind\, he incorporates in his work new wood carving techniques that verge in scientism and allows executing images where drawing\, painting\, and engraving merge directly in the original wood plate. The work of José Oscar Torres is a work of fine art\, that for its singularity\, transverses the traditional graphic boundaries. \n“The artwork of José Oscar Torres possesses the power of multiple projections of graphics… His works emit optical vibrations that may very well have sonorous power…” \nJosé Antonio Pérez Ruíz. Art Critic. \n“José Oscar Torres is heir to the tradition of Puerto Rican artists who for half a century devoted to the graphic arts. The woodcut was the favored technique for that time\, and it turned the inspiration and purpose of local art. After the historic revival of woodcarving in his new role liberated from academic restrictions\, the proposal of José Oscar is carried out in a more democratic world and echoes the artistic plurality. These circumstances lead him to develop a trope extremely curious and conceptually deconstructive xylographic process. \nHis work disrupts the original purpose of the wood carving process. It is an overview that eliminates the printing of the image and provides the engraving as an end product. We must recognize immediately that this new offering does not involve interrupting a sequence in the process and to end the work before printing\, but\, on the contrary\, it requires changes and focus in the carving from the beginning\, because everything from the overall design of the image\, until the calibration tones\, lights\, and shadows\, will depend on the hundreds of shots gouges like splashes of color…” \nEnrique García Gutiérrez. There he studied the painting and drawing techniques of the old masters. He held his first major exhibition in 1973 at The Museum of Art in Munich. Many one-man shows throughout Europe and the USA followed.  \nJAN 16th Irina Lapin \n“Inspiration Comes from Everywhere. As I look at everything around me\, I focus on small details and flow with the larger scope. Transformation is part of the natural order of things. Everything transitions from it’s current state to an altered state. I am inspired by reptiles\, starry nights\, lush interiors\, beautiful fruit\, artifacts and crystal\, Persian carpets\, chandeliers. All it takes is one picture found in a magazine or book to be a catalyst\, to be the foundation for the work. And then the pieces come together\, as though magnetized\, to form a new whole\, out of disparate parts.” \n  \nJAN 23rd Dee Perconti \nDee Perconti is a mixed-media collage artist whose focus is dramatic transformation. Her passion for change began when she was a child. She worked hard on recreating herself and is still evolving. She enjoys taking something plain and redoing it\, until it shines. Redecorating and re-purposing gives her joy. \n“I make art to show how we are ever growing\, changing\, evolving and transforming. It’s a message of optimism and hope. Life is exciting\, vibrant and full of second chances. That’s why I utilize my old paintings as do overs. They have another opportunity to say something new and relevant. I love living with art\, experiencing art and sharing art\, whether it is a framed piece\, architecture\, furniture or nature.” \n  \n  \nDEC 12th Suzanne Benton \nSuzanne Benton is a native New Yorker. She’s shared her many-faceted art as a sculptor\, mask performance artist\, printmaker\, painter and workshop leader for 30+ years\, in 31 countries. \n“A fascination with the intersections of the personal and the archetypal has carried me through life’s journeys. In making art and teaching throughout the world\, I’ve sought to learn and reconfigure unquestioned myths\, expanding my art and understanding in the process. Whatever awareness I’ve attained now abides in my work.” \n  \nDEC 19th. Dee Perconti \nDee Perconti is a mixed-media collage artist whose focus is dramatic transformation. Her passion for change began when she was a child. She worked hard on recreating herself and is still evolving. She enjoys taking something plain and redoing it\, until it shines. Redecorating and re-purposing gives her joy. \n“I make art to show how we are ever growing\, changing\, evolving and transforming. It’s a message of optimism and hope. She is a self-taught mosaic artist. Her work is flavored by her family’s roots from Havana to Key West to Ybor City.\n\n\n\nHer signature work is unlike traditional mosaics and brings vibrancy and complexity to her unique style of using hand-cut pieces of stained glass of different sizes and bright\, bold colors that blend to create an overall fluid\, painted effect. She starts by drawing her design on a wood surface\, then using stained glass as her palette\, she hand-cuts the glass\, then glues the pieces on and finally seals and finishes the piece with grout. \n\n\n\nMaria’s work blends her Hispanic and African-American background.
