Stories behind art are fascinating. Artists use their brushes, paint, canvases and tools to create stories like writers use a pen and paper. Here artists reveal the inspiration behind their masterpieces. It’s a rare opportunity to not guess but hear how the work was born first hand.
One Artist. One Story
Shelly Augsbury, painting under her initials, SEA, has been in the creative arts all her life. Recipient of over 40 international, national, and regional advertising awards, she has now set her sites on the canvas. Shelly paints mostly in acrylic and on a large scale. She works fast (since she has no patience, but insists she is working on that) and enjoys the flexibility acrylic gives to her art. Her paintings typically highlight the female form, the beach, flowers, cars or anything that rolls.
Hippy Series by Shelly Augsbury. 36″ x 60″, Mixed Media and Acrylic on Canvas
“In these terrible and tragic times I felt a need to escape to a happier place-specifically Woodstock. Although I was not old enough to attend I always appreciated the artists who patronaged that historic venue. In the feeling of love, peace and humanity I continued my hippie series of the bus and those who had fun. This is a mixed media and acrylic creation 36″ x 60″ and will be featured at my upcoming Bella Unica gallery show. Let’s try and smile more.”
